Our bakery started in Hilde's kitchen because of a need for wholesome, hearty breads. In 1974, the Basket Bakery opened as a small wholesale kitchen. All recipes were developed in-house. Hilde searched for all natural, local ingredients to use in the products. In her search for unbleached, untreated flour and whole grains, she found what she was looking for at a health food store in Stone Mountain Park. The Grist Mill ground wheat and rye to her specifications.  As demand grew, the business developed into a full-service bakery.

Our hearty breads include a wonderful, zesty Bauernbrot, Multigrain Bread, reminiscent of German Pumpernickel, and a dozen more whole grain and mixed grain breads.  There are more than 25 flavors of cakes and tortes to choose from. Many can be created into cakes for all occasions and beautiful wedding cakesThe French pastry line, pies, and cookies are endless with many seasonal specialties.  We still hand roll our Danish dough and make our own fillings for coffee cakes and Danish pastries.
